The year 2021 marks the 60th anniversary of two renowned development aid agencies – the U.S. Peace Corps and the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. These anniversaries offer a time to reflect on the eventful history of development aid– and to take a close look at the ever-changing requirements for successful development assistance in the 21st century.
With A Towering Task: The Story of the Peace Corps, the German-American filmmaker Alana DeJoseph has produced a comprehensive and enlightening historical overview of the Peace Corps. Narrated by Annette Bening, the viewpoints of both host country nationals and program alumni – so-called Returned Peace Corps Volunteers or RPCVs – add to the authenticity of this impressive documentary.
